Real Madrid have had a forgettable 2024-25 season so far, having missed out on all the big trophies, including La Liga, Copa del Rey, Spanish Super Cup, and UEFA Champions League.
Luckily, unlike other seasons, they still have the chance to add a major trophy to their cabinet, i.e., the FIFA Club World Cup.
This competition is currently underway in the United States, and the Merengues have put in encouraging performances so far since the change in management from Carlo Ancelotti to Xabi Alonso.
Kylian Mbappe yet to feature prominently in FIFA CWC
One can be hopeful that Los Blancos’ performances can get even better, especially as the team adapts to Alonso’s playing style with the passage of time.
Meanwhile, one of the best players in the Real Madrid squad, Kylian Mbappe, has also had minimal participation in this CWC, and his role is set to grow after his recovery from his illness.
In his stead, Gonzalo Garcia got the chance to showcase his talents at the highest level, and the youngster took full advantage of this opportunity.
He has scored 3 goals in the competition up to now, the highest in the Real Madrid squad, and only behind Angel di Maria in the overall scoring charts of the competition.
Real Madrid fans want Gonzalo Garcia to start against BVB
With Mbappe’s return, he is set to return to the bench for the upcoming games. However, fans seem to have already developed an affection for the youngster, and they want to see him continue playing as the starter over the French superstar.
This was visible from a poll conducted by El Chiringuito TV, in which they asked the fans about which of these two players should start in the upcoming quarter-final game against Borussia Dortmund. 10,798 fans participated in this poll, and around 61.5% of the respondents picked Garcia, while 38.5% picked Mbappe.
This poll only goes on to reflect the amazing World Cup that Gonzalo Garcia is having. There is no doubt he is still a significantly way behind Kylian Mbappe, but in these last few matches, he has shown beyond any doubt that he still deserves to remain a part of the team and get a lot of chances going forward.
