As is normally the case, the 2024-25 season ended for FC Barcelona at the end of May, as they played their last La Liga game against Athletic Club. However, the season still continues for some top teams in Europe and the rest of the world, as they are participating in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Blaugrana club did not participate in this first edition of the revamped FIFA competition, as they were unable to qualify for it. Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid represented Spain in this competition.
Atletico Madrid were unable to make it past the group stage, and Real Madrid, who remain one of the favorites to win the CWC, are set to face Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals.
Dean Huijsen’s father mocks Real Madrid rivals
The Merengues had significantly strengthened their squad before this competition, and one of the additions they made was that of the young center-back, Dean Huijsen.
While the player is impressing on the pitch, his father, Don Huijsen, is raising temperatures on social media.
This is clear from a report from Mundo Deportivo, which reports the defender’s father sharing an image on Instagram that would not sit well with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, or Manchester City fans.
The image shows an altered version of the CWC quarter-final round table, where Barcelona are set to face ‘Al-Sofa’, Manchester City is facing ‘Al-TV’, Atletico Madrid are facing FC Control, while Real Madrid are facing Borussia Dortmund.
Barcelona not participating in the competition
This image is naturally going to anger some fans of all the mentioned clubs, but it also shows the nature of today’s football, where social media plays such an important part.
Meanwhile, their non-participation in the competition is not all bad for Barcelona, especially as it would allow their players to have enough rest and a normal preseason before returning to fight for all the big titles next season.
