Manchester United add Premier League striker with contract until 2033 to their shortlist – Journalist

Date:

Manchester United have been having a very weird summer until this point, securing the signature of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and are in the final stages of signing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. Now, they continue their search for a new number nine.

At this point, it makes you wonder if the Red Devils are aware of other positions on a football field apart from just the attack. However, it could be that Ruben Amorim has identified this as the area of the pitch that he wants to reinforce this summer.

Sometimes, when you have a squad that is as problematic as what Man Utd’s is, at the moment, it is important to pick and choose your battles as it is not realistically possible to revamp the entire squad in just one summer transfer window.

Man Utd add Nicolas Jackson to their shortlist

Thus, one can understand why Man Utd are now focusing on a new number nine. As per reputed journalist Florian Plettenberg, the English club have added Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson to their shortlist as their search for a new striker this summer continues.

Jackson has been at Stamford Bridge for a couple of seasons, joining them from Villarreal. He has taken some time to settle into the Premier League after being thrown into the deep end, but showed some signs of improvement last campaign.

The Senegalese number nine has a contract with Chelsea until 2033, which gives the Blues a stronghold during negotiations. However, if they are looking to move him on this summer, that factor might go out of the window.

A red flag!

The 24-year-old played in 37 games across all competitions for the Blues in the 2024/25 season, scoring 13 goals and providing six assists. Those numbers do not necessarily scream a clinical finisher and this is a red flag for Manchester United.

Nicolas Jackson is definitely a solid talent with a good future in the game, but he is not what Man Utd need at the moment. This is an opportunity that the Red Devils would be better off avoiding, and let’s wait and see how it plays out.
