Liverpool prepare for €70m Barcelona target’s exit with replacement identified – Report

Date:

FC Barcelona, led by sporting director Deco, made some quick moves this summer to secure Joan Garcia from Espanyol and then Roony Bardghji from Copenhagen. However, their primary target for the left-wing spot has left a lot to be desired.

Deco’s personal bet for that position has been Liverpool star Luis Diaz. The Colombian winger has been with the Reds for a few seasons now but with just a year left to go on his contract, he has interest from a number of European clubs.

Now, as per Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool are prepared for a potential Luis Diaz exit and have already earmarked Newcastle United striker Anthony Gordon as a target they could go after should the €70m-rated star leave this summer.

Barcelona, Bayern and Saudi want Luis Diaz

Bayern Munich are bidding hard for him on a daily basis and there is also interest in Luis Diaz from Saudi Arabia. In fact, the report mentions that the Middle East has pretty much offered a blank cheque to the 28-year-old, although the player is rejecting until now.

Liverpool still hope to reach an agreement with Diaz over a new contract but the Reds’ sporting management are prepared for the eventuality that he ends up leaving. That said, the Merseyside club are not the kind to lower their stance and sell below their asking price.

Meanwhile, Anthony Gordon is a player that the Reds have tracked even in the past and he has been developing very well at Newcastle United. The Magpies winger would be an upgrade on the Colombian in some sense.

Coming to Barcelona, this decision of Liverpool should be a boost for Deco to push to sign Luis Diaz. However, there is a general consensus amongst the fan base that it would not be wise to go over and beyond to sign an inconsistent 28-year-old.

Make no mistake – Diaz is a good player in his own right. However, considering Barcelona’s current financial situation, they need to be more prudent with their transfer business. Let’s wait and see if sense prevails and the Catalan club turn elsewhere in search of a new left-winger.
