FC Barcelona started off the summer transfer window with some unprecedented urgency, moving swiftly to secure a deal for Espanyol shot-stopper Joan Garcia and also wrapping up a bargain deal to sign Swedish youngster Roony Bardghji.
However, ever since Nico Williams snubbed a move to the Catalan club and ended up signing a 10-year contract with Athletic Bilbao, things have been progressing very slowly for Barcelona, almost like they had put all their eggs into that one bucket.
Since then, there have been a few names in the running for the left-wing position, and one of them is Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford. The Englishman and Ruben Amorim don’t get along, and he is one of the several exits expected from Old Trafford this summer.
Liverpool join Barcelona for Marcus Rashford
Now, as per Daily Mail via Sky Sports, Merseyside club Liverpool has joined Barcelona in the race for the talented 27-year-old attacker. It comes as quite a surprise since the Reds and Man Utd are arch rivals and one generally doesn’t see players move one way or the other.
Rashford has been widely regarded as one of the biggest talents in English football, but his performances have been inconsistent. When the 27-year-old is on song, he is almost unstoppable, but when he isn’t, things can look very ugly.
However, clubs still have trust in Rashford and believe in the quality to come good. Maybe, much like other Manchester United players, all he needs is a change of scenery and a different manager to bring the best out of him.
Rashford dreams of Barça
Despite Liverpool’s interest in Rashford, if they were to make a bid, it would break decades of tradition where the two clubs have not transferred players between them directly. However, Barcelona are unlikely to be put off by this.
It has been mentioned multiple times that Marcus Rashford dreams of a move to Barcelona this summer. Should the Catalan club decide to push ahead and make this deal happen, it would be a quality addition at a decent fee. It remains to be seen how things play out going forward.
