FC Barcelona seemed to be going through a bit of a lull with regards to the summer transfer window. The Catalan club started off the summer very well, signing Joan Garcia from Espanyol and Roony Bardghji from Copenhagen.
Since then, however, things had been progressing at a very slow pace even as Barcelona focused on signing a new left-winger. However, yesterday, it emerged that the Catalan club had reached an agreement in principle with Manchester United for Marcus Rashford.
The 27-year-old Premier League attacker is expected to join Barcelona on a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season. The Catalan club has negotiated a favourable €35million buy-option that they could trigger, based on his performance.
Marcus Rashford set to travel to Barcelona
Now, as per journalist Gerard Romero, Barcelona and Manchester United are exchanging documents for the loan of Marcus Rashford. The Englishman is then expected to arrive in Spain by evening and undergo his medical tomorrow.
Following an extensive medical examination, he is set to join his new team, and on Thursday, he will join Flick & Co. on their pre-season Asian tour. One cannot understate the importance of the 27-year-old managing to join the team in time for pre-season.
Rashford is coming to a new club that plays a completely different brand of football to what he was used to. He hasn’t had the best of times at Man Utd in recent seasons, and as he looks to start fresh, it is important for the player to integrate into Flick’s team.
A chance at revival

Many people have written off the Englishman based on his past couple of seasons, but if his Aston Villa loan spell is anything to go by, the 27-year-old still has what it takes to play at the highest level and leave a lasting impact.
The pre-season tour is likely to give fans a clear idea of the position Hansi Flick has in mind for Rashford. The Englishman is most likely going to be tried as a left-winger, where he can thrive, alongside an overlapping Alejandro Balde.
Barcelona have done very well to secure Rashford on very favourable terms, and should he come good, they could have a very special player in their hands. It is important for the 27-year-old to start off well during pre-season, and let’s wait and see how things play out in the coming weeks.
