How new Real Madrid signing Dean Huijsen fared in Nations League final vs Portugal: Stats and analysis

Date:

Real Madrid have already wrapped up their La Liga, UEFA Champions League, and the Copa del Rey campaigns in the 2024-25 season, and unfortunately, were unable to get their hands on any of these titles.

However, the Merengues still have a chance to end this season on a high note, as they will be playing in the FIFA Club World Cup with a significantly strengthened squad, with the return of players like Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao, and the new additions of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen, who will all play under the new coach, Xabi Alonsi.

Some of these players are already training with the new coach for the CWC, while others are busy training and playing for their respective national teams. One player who got free of his national team duties only recently was one of the new signings of Real Madrid, the centre-back Dean Huijsen.

The youngster was a part of the starting line of the Spanish national team as it took to the field for the UEFA Nations League final against Portugal. Unfortunately, the Spaniards were unable to add another trophy to their cabinet, as they were defeated 5-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal and extra time.

Still, the young defender was able to put in an impressive shift in this game. As Sofascore statistics show, he played all 120 minutes in this match and stood out defensively with his 7 clearances, 2 interceptions, and 1 tackle.

Furthermore, he was quite active with the ball as well; he had 123 total touches. He attempted 112 passes in this match, completing 101 of these, and thus registering a 90% success rate in this regard. He also attempted 10 long balls, of which 4 successfully found their target.

Although not perfect, this was still an encouraging performance from the new Real Madrid signing at a high international stage. Hopefully, he will only improve further with his new club and will showcase his talents in the upcoming CWC.
