‘He pulls his teammates forward’ — Xabi Alonso hails Real Madrid midfield star after Juventus win

Date:

Xabi Alonso’s tenure at Real Madrid began on an underwhelming note with a draw against Al-Hilal, but the Merengues have since adapted to his tactics and, as a result, have qualified for the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Each of the three wins so far has been convincing, and different players have stepped up to the occasion and played a part in the victories.

Fede Valverde’s importance at Real Madrid

One of these players has been the stand-in captain, Fede Valverde. The Uruguayan is perhaps the dream player for any manager in Europe currently, and Los Blancos are lucky to have him.

He has bounced back after the penalty miss against Al-Hilal and not only has scored two goals in the following matches but also controlled the tempo of the game while playing at the heart of the midfield.

Last night’s match against Juventus was proof that Valverde is and should be an undisputed starter for the Merengues. Despite not scoring a goal, he weaved his magic, which led players such as Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler to play freely and without any pressure.

Xabi Alonso full of praise for the midfielder

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Xabi Alonso spoke with a smile about the Uruguayan midfielder, who was also named man of the match:

“Fede Valverde makes my life so much easier. He’s a top player, incredibly complete — he does almost everything well. He’s got grit, leadership on the pitch, and he pulls his teammates forward. He’s one of the best with and without the ball. I’m especially happy to be working with him.”

The 26-year-old continues to grow as a player, and with the dawn of a new era, Fede Valverde can undoubtedly be the focal point of this Real Madrid side due to his ability to play at any position in the lineup.
