Barcelona hold talks with €70m Bundesliga star’s brother and intermediary Ali Barat – Report

Date:

FC Barcelona have made some questionable moves in the summer transfer window, and there still isn’t much clarity on who the club is actually targeting. The precision with which the club moved to sign Joan Garcia from Espanyol early in the summer feels like a distant memory.

Left-wing has been a position that the club has been looking to reinforce for some time now. Of the many options that they have, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is one of them and but the Englishman also has interest from the likes of Liverpool and Juventus.

Now, as per Spanish outlet SPORT, Barcelona sporting director Deco held a 45-minute meeting with the brother of RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons and intermediary Ali Barat over a potential return for the La Masia graduate.

While Ali isn’t the official representative of the 22-year-old Dutch forward, he holds significant influence on the decisions Simons makes for his future. Once touted to be one of the biggest talents to be coming through La Masia, the youngster has been very impressive for the Bundesliga side.

The €70m-rated star left the Barcelona academy to join PSG but never really got a chance to thrive at the French club. He then enjoyed an excellent season on loan at PSV Eindhoven before moving to Leipzig and making a career for himself.

It has been mentioned by the report that Simons now dreams of a return to his boyhood club, much like Dani Olmo did last summer, incidentally from the same Bundesliga club. The 22-year-old could now make the same switch this summer.

Not a easy deal

However, despite the interest from the player’s side, it might not be easy for Barcelona to pull off this transfer this summer. RB Leipzig are likely to demand a premium to part ways with him and they are usually a very good selling club.

While meetings with player camps are often the norm, there isn’t much to read into after just one such session. The next few weeks could provide a clearer picture of whether Barcelona are going to pursue a move this summer. Let’s wait and see how it plays out.
