FC Barcelona began pre-season preparation in some fashion yesterday, beating Vissel Kobe 3-1 in Japan with goals from Eric Garcia, Roony Bardghji, and Dro emerging as the goalscorers, and they look to continue in a similar fashion as they continue to build towards the 2025/26 season.
Even as Hansi Flick continues to take care of things on the pitch, the likes of Joan Laporta and Deco are likely to be working overtime off it, to try and sort out the registrations of new signings and have the squad ready for La Liga without drama.
One player whose future at Barcelona is very much up in the air is club captain Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. As per Mundo Deportivo, the German international is set to undergo surgery tomorrow in Bordeaux to rectify the back issue that has been plaguing him.
Ter Stegen to go under the knife
The surgery will be performed by Dr. Amelie Leglise under the supervision of the club’s medical services at the Sports Clinic in Bordeaux, Merignac. Ter Stegen has already gone under the knife once for the same issue back in 2023.
Even before his surgery, the club captain took to social media to announce that he would be out of action for a period of three months. This was significant because in order for Barcelona to use his wages to register a new signing, Ter Stegen had to be ruled out of action for four months.
The report mentions that Barcelona continue under the assumption that his recovery would take more than 4 months, unlike what the player wants to believe. Ultimately, what the medical report has to say is what the club will go by.
A very frosty relationship
The relationship between Ter Stegen and Barcelona has become very frosty in recent weeks. The arrival of Joan Garcia has not helped the cause, with the German being pushed out of the club, and the surgery only further complicates things.
