An overview of how Barcelona could line up under Hansi Flick for the 2025-26 season

Date:

Despite having won all the big domestic titles last season, i.e., the Spanish Super Cup, the Copa del Rey, and La Liga, FC Barcelona are looking to further reinforce their team ahead of the 2025-26 season.

In this regard, the Catalans have already signed a new goalkeeper for the next season, i.e., Joan Garcia, while they are also working on the signing of Nico Williams.

With these new additions, Hansi Flick will have quite a deep squad with almost all areas of the pitch covered by at least two players.

Ahead of this season, SPORT has provided an outlook of how the Barcelona team will look for the next season.

Goalkeeper

Joan Garcia is set to be the starter for Hansi Flick next season in goal, while Wojciech Szczesny will be his backup. The future of Marc-Andre ter Stegen remains to be seen, even though the German goalie seems committed to remaining at the Catalan club.

Fullbacks

Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde will remain the starting fullbacks for Flick, and Hector Fort and Gerard Martin will continue to remain in line to rest and replace them whenever the need arises. Eric Garcia will also be available to play as a right-back.

Centre-backs

This is one of the many areas of the pitch where there will be a lot of competition for minutes. Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez will remain the starters after their good last season, while Eric Garcia is also liked by Flick, and Ronald Araujo will also provide a different profile. Andreas Christensen might leave, even though he wants to fulfil his contract.

Pivots

Frenkie de Jong and Pedri are expected to remain the two pivots for Flick, but competition in this position will also be high, with the likes of Marc Casado, Gavi, and Marc Bernal also vying for minutes.

Attacking midfielder

Dani Olmo is the preferred starter in this position for Flick, but he will have to overcome his injuries to lock this position. Meanwhile, Fermin Lopez has also laid a claim for this position, while Raphinha can also be pushed here after the expected arrival of Nico Williams. Pablo Torre is expected to leave in the coming few days.

Wingers

With Nico’s potential arrival, Barcelona will have two of the best wingers in the world playing for them, and Raphinha will be able to cover for both of them when the need arises. Fermin Lopez can also play on the left wing.

Centre-forward

After his good last season, Robert Lewandowski is set to remain the starter at the centre-forward position, but he can lose prominence as he enters the last year of his contract.

Ferran Torres did a very good job replacing him last season, and can do so again next season, while Raphinha and Dani Olmo will also be able to play in this position.
