FC Barcelona have secured a place in the top eight of the UEFA Champions League League Phase, which means they are directly qualified for the Round of 16 and will not need to participate in a play-off round.
The Catalans had to work hard to earn the result in their recent clash against FC Copenhagen, as they spent the entire first half trailing. They equalized just after the restart and then turned the game around in the second half.
Marc Bernal was one of the players who came on in the second half, as he replaced Eric Garcia at half-time. He put in quite a convincing performance in this game, further cementing his place in Hansi Flick’s plans.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the 18-year-old Spanish midfielder also talked to the media after the match against Copenhagen. Bernal took this opportunity to clear any misconceptions about his future:
“My intention has always been to stay. This is my life, this is my crest, and it will always be like that.”
The Spaniard also talked about how Hansi Flick supported him during his recovery process:
“He told me it would be a long process and that these minutes would be useful to get back into rhythm and continue in this dynamic.”
Bernal also provided an update on his fitness:
“I’m already at one hundred percent.”
He also shared insights from the team talk at half-time:
“The coach told us at halftime to be patient, that the spaces would open up and the goals would come.”
Hopefully, this performance will help Marc Bernal get even more minutes in the coming weeks and months and become an important part of this FC Barcelona team.
