FC Barcelona have had a decent summer transfer window so far. Although they might not be spending as much as some of their rivals are in the market, the Catalan club already has a well-sorted squad and has managed to bring in Joan Garcia, Marcus Rashford, and Roony Bardghji.
The Catalan club does not have the need to spend truckloads of money in the transfer market, as La Masia makes the club very self-sufficient. Every season, there are players from the reserve team who break into the first-team setup and become key starters or important pieces of squad depth.
While this summer, there isn’t much left for Barcelona to do in the market, the same cannot be said for the summer of 2026. Robert Lewandowski’s contract expires, and the club may need to sign a marquee striker. One other position that could need reinforcement in central defence.
Barcelona might need a new center-back next summer

Andreas Christensen is entering the final year of his contract, and Inigo Martinez is not getting any younger. Ronald Araujo is facing a career-defining season, and if he doesn’t end up having a good one, the club may be forced into making another reinforcement next summer.
Now, as per Caught Offside, Barcelona have entered the race to sign Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate. The Catalan club is not alone, with Bayern Munich also expressing interest, while Real Madrid have been long-term suitors for the €60m-rated Reds star. PSG is another club that wants to sign the player.
Konate is no closer to signing a new deal with Liverpool, and this would be his last year at Anfield, as per his current contract. The Reds are keen not to end up losing him for free, like they did with Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid this summer.
Liverpool set asking price
The Merseyside club has set an asking price of £40m for Konate this summer, but Madrid are willing to pay only up to something in the region of £25m. It is understood that the clubs interested in him would rather wait it out a season than snap him up right now.
For Barcelona, paying and signing him this summer is not likely to be an option this summer. However, one cannot go wrong with the Frenchman on a free transfer next summer, but with so many clubs interested in his signature, it doesn’t entirely depend on them. Let’s wait and see how things play out and where Konate plays his football next season.
