Barcelona considering loan move to allow 18-year-old quarry winger to develop – Report

Date:

FC Barcelona are blessed to have an academy like La Masia that keeps on producing talents who are ready for first-team football. This makes the club self-sufficient on many occasions, allowing them to save money in the transfer market.

A player like Lamine Yamal would not be attainable for Barcelona in today’s financial landscape but instead, it was someone they had in their own academy who they identified at a very young age, developed and now reaping the rewards of.

The next crop of academy talents and recent acquisitions for the club’s youth ranks promises to be exciting, and one of the poster boys is Jan Virgili. The youngster has been in the first-team scheme of things in recent times, but with Marcus Rashford coming in, he might not get much opportunities at the senior level this season.

Now, as per the Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona are considering a loan move to allow Jan Virgili to develop by playing first division football. Having him with the reserve team in the fourth division of Spanish football might not be beneficial.

The 18-year-old is extremely talented and could become a part of Hansi Flick’s plans in the seasons to come. First division clubs have expressed interest in the idea of taking the teenager on loan, as he could help them in the immediate future.

Among the clubs interested in Virgili, Mallorca are mentioned as one of them. The Balearic club sees the teenager as the perfect addition to bolster their attack, and this could be a perfectly symbiotic relationship for all parties involved.

Development is key

One thing that most quarry gems possess, despite their young age, is a readiness for the first team. As such, Jan Virgili might not find himself out of his depth even if he were to play for Mallorca on loan in the upcoming season.

Barcelona clearly have the youngster in their plans and want to provide him with the best possible conditions for development. While it’s still uncertain whether they will loan Virgili out, they must ensure that his next destination offers him enough game time to showcase his quality.

Ever since I wore my school team jersey and tried to emulate my idol, El Capitan, Sergio Ramos, my passion for this beautiful game has been on a rise. A passionate follower of the sport, I watch both the Premier League and La Liga keenly, without necessarily supporting any team and just appreciating the beauty of the game. It’s been a beautiful journey and I hope to transcend the same emotions through my writing.
