Hansi Flick has been training the FC Barcelona first team for the past week, in preparation for the pre-season tour to Asia. A number of reserve team players had also been called up to gain experience with the seniors and have the chance to impress the German coach.
Roony Bardghji, Jofre Torrents, Toni Fernandez, Guille Fernandez, Pedro Fernandez, Jan Virgili, Laundry Farre, Juan Hernandez and Ibrahim Diarra were all called up for the past week and the latter, unfortunately, picked up an injury.
Now, as per Mundo Deportivo, three of the above-mentioned players – Juan, Laundry and Jan Virgili have returned to Barca Atletic to join the reserve team for their pre-season. Thus, it is clear that Hansi Flick won’t be including them in the pre-season tour to Asia.
Dro and Torrents are locked in
The other 5 names on the list are expected to continue training with the first team and have a good chance of making the Asian tour. They are emerging as the chosen ones for Hansi Flick. It was mentioned yesterday that Dro and Jofre Torrents had all but sealed their place on the plane and Roony is likely to be there too.
The situation is a bit more complex when it comes to the Fernandez cousins – Toni and Guille. The two have been a part of the first-team setup for quite some time now without getting their break and might be loaned out this summer.
Barcelona have never been a club that has been afraid to give youngsters a chance at the highest level, irrespective of age. Jordi Cruyff revealed recently that ex-manager Xavi Hernandez had to be stopped from giving Lamine Yamal his debut much sooner than he actually did.
Hansi Flick, continuing from where Xavi left
Hansi Flick has continued from where the Spanish tactician left off. Last summer, he wasted no time in promoting Marc Bernal to the first team despite the teenager still being very young. It looks like the German coach would continue along the same lines this time as well.
It remains to be seen if all five of the mentioned names make the flight to Asia or if the list will undergo further pruning. Regardless, these youngsters would be thrilled with the choice of training with the seniors and let’s wait and see if they can catch Hansi Flick’s eye in the upcoming games.
