Journalist confirms Barcelona advancing on deal to sign Premier League attacker on loan with buy option

Date:

FC Barcelona have had a very mixed start to the summer transfer window so far. They started off very well, securing the talented Joan Garcia from Espanyol early in the window, and also brought in Roony Bardghji from Copenhagen as a developmental bet.

However, their search for a left-winger this summer has progressed with the same kind of confusion as a headless chicken. Different names have been linked with the club in this regard, and it was important for the club to reach a conclusion.

Now, as per reputed journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic, Barcelona are advancing on a deal to sign Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford on a loan deal this summer with the option to buy. Hansi Flick has approved the transfer.

Barcelona to sign Rashford on loan

The journalist mentions that Manchester United have accepted the loan terms, but there is still a bit of work to be done before finalisation. However, it increasingly looks like Barcelona will have an Englishman playing for the first team after a long time.

The 27-year-old versatile forward comes on a low-risk deal that would provide massive upside for Barcelona, should he come good. The club could look to continue with him if he performs well, and if not, there is always the option to send him back at the end of the season.

Rashford has been dreaming of a move to Barcelona for some time now. Capable of playing on the left wing and as a striker, he offers Flick depth in the front line, and over the course of the season, he could prove to be very valuable.

A determined Rashford?

It is worth noting that the Englishman is coming to Barcelona with a point to prove, and the club might get to enjoy a very determined Marcus Rashford. With the World Cup around the corner, the 27-year-old will be keen to get back into the scheme of things under Thomas Tuchel.

Barcelona might be looking to make this signing official sooner rather than later to allow Marcus Rashford to be available for pre-season under Hansi Flick. It remains to be seen how the Englishman performs in a Blaugrana jersey, and it does finally feel like the summer transfer window is back on track for the Catalan club. Long may it continue.
