FC Barcelona have started pre-season preparations as Hansi Flick looks to get his squad fit and firing ahead of the new season. Unlike last season, the German coach has the entire squad to work with from the beginning this time around.
New signings Joan Garcia and Roony Bardghji have also been part of the training, with the latter in particular looking to establish himself in the first-team picture. Hansi Flick has to make a decision on who to take with him for the pre-season tour and this week would be the last chance for some fringe players to prove themselves.
Now, as per Mundo Deportivo, the Swedish teenage talent has surprised Hansi Flick with his performance in training this week and is almost certainly going to be on that plane to Asia when the first-team squad depart.
Roony has caught the eye in training
Roony Bardghji was signed by Barcelona with the perspective of him being registered with the quarry team, but with the idea of him being involved in first-team training. If he continues to impress the gaffer, there is a good chance of him being a part of the first-team.
Predominantly a right-winger who can cut in on the left and create chances and also score goals, if he continues developing at a similar rate, the Scandinavian winger could provide cover for Lamine Yamal and also allow Flick to use the Spaniard as a false-nine, should he wish to do so.
Hansi Flick has showcased multiple times that he values players who train well and if Bardghji manages to impress during pre-season, he would be taking yet another step in moving closer to the first-team. Age has never been a barrier at Barcelona.
Barcelona need to be realistic
One thing that the club is likely to be cautious with when dealing with the teenager is that he is just returning from a long-term ACL injury and being prudent about the recovery is very important. Thus, expectations must be set at a realistic level.
The next few weeks could ultimately determine where Bardghji plays his football for Barcelona this season. This is an opportunity that he seems to be taking, at least based on the first week and let’s wait and see how things play out on this front.
