20-year-old Real Madrid midfielder’s resurgence continues under Xabi Alonso

Date:

The Xabi Alonso era is well and truly underway, and since the hiccup against Al-Hilal, Real Madrid have secured two convincing wins against CF Pachuca and RB Salzburg.

Jude Bellingham has been at the top of his game, Vinicius Junior’s goal-scoring form has returned, and Dean Huijsen has proven to be quite a revelation in defence. But one of the main reasons for the two victories has been the resurgence of Arda Guler.

For the youngster, everything seemed doom and gloom, as he was unable to break into the team despite the side requiring a player of his caliber and profile.

Lack of chances and redemption under Carlo Ancelotti

For someone who had impressed in 440 minutes in 12 matches in his first season, with 6 goals, he would have hoped for a much better start to the second season. However, that was not the case under Carlo Ancelotti.

When asked about the reason behind the lack of opportunities for Guler, the Italian manager was blunt and gave a straight answer to the Turk’s case. Instead of beating around the bush, he mentioned how he wanted a player who is eager to learn, wants to work, and wants to play.

Guler, however, took Ancelotti’s words to the chin and worked hard and finally received his reward in the final stretch of the season.

Since Arsenal knocked out the Merengues from the Champions League, Guler started 8 out of 10 games, recording 3 goals and 2 assists in these matches. The Italian was full of praise for the youngster, deeming him an important player for Real Madrid in the future.

The only two fixtures that he did not start were the Copa Del Rey final against Barcelona and the opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup against Al-Hilal. Los Blancos has recorded 7 wins in 8 out of those starts, with the only loss coming against FC Barcelona.

Arda Guler shines under Xabi Alonso for Real Madrid

Now, according to MARCA, Arda Güler’s patience is finally paying off at Real Madrid, and his influence continues to grow even under Xabi Alonso.

After being a substitute against Al-Hilal, Guler started the next two matches, scoring 1 goal, and has weaved his magic in the midfield for the 172 minutes he has been on the pitch in the FIFA Club World Cup so far.

Before his arrival, Xabi reportedly admired Guler and believed in his talent. He even wanted the young Turk at Leverkusen in his final season, but now at Madrid, he finally gets an opportunity to maximise Guler’s potential at the club.

With Xabi Alonso at the helm, expect Arda Guler to be a vital member of the squad due to his ability to play centrally in the midfield, as a number 10, or even as a right winger. So, after a tumultuous start to his stint at Real Madrid, the time for Guler to shine is now.
